Ada Mae Pegues Lyles, a cherished member of the Thomasville community, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2024 at the age of 88, at Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center. Born on May 23, 1936 in Anson County, North Carolina, Ada was the beloved daughter of Show Pegues and Mary Melton Pegues.
Ada attended McCrae High School where she was known for her kindness, dedication and strong sense of community. Her commitment to serving others continued throughout her life as a lifelong member of Brown New Calvary Baptist Church. At the church, Ada served diligently on the nursing board and lent her beautiful voice to the senior choir, touching many lives with her compassion and spirit.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Lee Thomas and Taylor Pegues and five brothers-in-law: Lugene Pratt, Roy Oliver, Bobby James, Lemanuel Hampton and Lewis Thompson.
Ada is survived by her two sons, Gentle Wayne Redfearn and Moses Dale Lyles; three daughters: Wanda Redfearn Tate, Winifred Redfearn and Linda (Eric) Lyles-Little; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her four brothers: Gadyes (Helen) Pegues, James (Cynthia) Pegues, Perry Pegues and Tommie (Doris) Pegues; seven sisters: Clarice Thompson, Marie Pratt, Margaret Diggs, Annie Louise Hampton, Mattie James, Lorrine Oliver and Betty (Marvin) Burchette; a sister-in-law, Shirlene Pegues along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Ada's legacy of love, service and faith will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She leaves behind a community that will miss her deeply.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 1:00 pm at Brown New Calvary Baptist Church, with visitation at 12:00 Noon. Burial will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park.
