Obituary

Ms. Angela Byers Haney departed this life on Friday morning, August 28, 2020 after an extended illness. She was born January 7, 1962 in Winston-Salem, N.C. to Earl Byers and the late Wilhelmina Byers.

Angela was affectionately known to her family and friends as "Ann." She received her formal education in Forsyth County Public Schools. Through the years, she worked for B&G Pie Company, Adele Knits and various child care centers. Angela was truly passionate about teaching and caring for children of all ages. Her most recent employment was with Wake Forest Medical Center as a Patient Transporter until her health would no longer allow her to work.

Angela was a member of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church. With her mother's permission, she became a member during her late teen years to be with her adopted Montgomery family. Angela loved Morning Star so much and did not like to miss Sunday morning and evening services, any special programs or events involving Morning Star. She was a former member of the Hospitality Ministry and the Nurses Ministry, now known as the Health Promotion Ministry. She also worked with the Youth Department as a supportive parent and helper.

Ms. Haney was preceded in death by her mother, Wilhelmina Byers; her brother, Bryan Byers and her maternal and paternal grandparents.

She leaves to cherish loving memories one daughter, Anisha Byers of Cary, NC; one son, Anthony Byers of the city; one granddaughter, Simone Stewart; Godparents, Priscilla McFarlin and Rev. Dr. Jimmy Montgomery of the city; two brothers, Calvin Byers and Timothy Byers of the city; two sisters, Cecelia Byers and Selenia Byers of the city; lifelong best-friends affectionately known as sisters: Hazel Stinson, Debra Mercer, Stephanie Hayes and Veronica Springs; four aunts: Herlenia Jackson, Dorothy Mae Joyner, Bessie Mae Kennedy and Queenester Thomas; five nieces: Krishanda Byers, Akela Byers, Janee' Gist, Tenisha Ingram and Cheyenne Byers; a great-nephew, Sav'ion Byers; seven God-children, a host of cousins, extended family and dear friends.

Special Thanks to the Health Professionals/Staff of Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, Piedmont Dialysis Center, Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, Deacon Carrie Robinson and Trustee Robert and Rev. Parthenia Galloway.

Special Thanks to the neighbors of West 23rd Street: Evelyn Conrad, Cynthia Floyd (devoted caregiver), Pauling family and Wilson family.

The service celebrating her graceful life will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, September 6, 2020 from the sanctuary of Canaan Baptist Church, 1800 N. Liberty Street, Winston-Salem, North Carolina 27105 with family moments of sharing at 2:30 P.M. prior to the service.Public viewing will be held Saturday, September 5, 2020 1:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M. at Roberts Funeral Service, Winston-Salem Chapel. Interment will be held privately.

In accordance with social distancing protocols, all guests are required to wear a face mask or covering for all services.
