Our beloved matriarch, Bernice Jackson Barmore, entered eternal rest on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at Pine Acres in Lexington, North Carolina. She was born on September 27, 1929 in Ware Shoals, South Carolina to the late Willie "Will" Jackson and Vennie Leverett Jackson of Lincolnton, Georgia.
A faithful servant, Bernice was a cherished member of Files Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Lexington, North Carolina. She dedicated her time and talents to the church, serving as a former member of the senior choir, usher board, and missionary circle. She also regularly attended Bible study until her health began to decline.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Leroy Junior Barmore and Harold D. Jackson; six brothers: W.T. Jackson, Ammy James Jackson, Otis Jackson, Willie D. Jackson, Lowell Jackson and Rev. Ellis Jackson; and six sisters: Mayo Jackson Lomax, Elizabeth Jackson Martin, Louneil Jackson Nixon, Annie Ruth Jackson Murphy, Addie B. Jackson-Calhoun and Larnice Jackson Anderson.
She leaves behind her beloved children, a son, James (Priscilla) Barmore and three daughters: Jeanette B. Smith, Rosa G. Wright and Barbara B. Ashe. Bernice was also blessed with 22 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-great-grandchildren. She will also be missed by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Her journey through life was marked by a deep commitment to her loved ones and a steadfast faith that guided her every step. She lived a life full of purpose and joy, embodying the essence of the verse from 2 Timothy 4:7.
Bernice's legacy will continue to live on through the lives of those she touched and the countless memories she created. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered with love and admiration.
The funeral service will be held on Sunday at 2:30 PM at Files Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, with family visitation starting at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at South Lexington City Cemetery.
