Bettye Jean Leverett peacefully passed at her home, Thursday, December 4, 2025.  She was born September 23, 1941 to the late Roy Leverett and the late Catherine McIntosh Bussey.  Bettye had one sibling, the late Gary Leverett.

Betty graduated from The High School of Fashion Industries in New York, NY in 1960 and later attended Page University.  Bettye was employed by Ma Bell Telephone Company, currently known as Verizon.  Initially she worked as a switch board operator and later worked in administration prior to her retiring after 33 years of service.

Bettye is survived by her dedicated daughter, Cheryl Leverett Bryant, 3 grandchildren: Jonathan (Chasity) Blocker, Dennis Leverett and Shavonna Bryant Bonamy; 5 great-grandchildren: Jada, Aubrey, twins Reign and Dorian, Malachi and a host of cousins.

Bettye was born in Lexington, NC and at the age of 16, moved to Brooklyn, NY where she lived most of her adult life.  She moved back home to Lexington, NC in 2014 to spend time with her father, Roy Leverett.  Bettye provided care for both of her parents in their later years.  Also, she was deeply involved in rearing her grandchildren.  In her leisure time, Bettye enjoyed cooking food from various ethnic backgrounds. She also enjoyed painting and reading.

The memorial service will be Sunday at 2:00pm at Roberts Funeral Service Chapel.
