Bobby Mitchell, born July 7, 1953 in Williamsburg, VA, to Charles Mitchell and Alice Mae Gilley Bowens, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2024 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice House.
He graduated from Lexington Senior High School class of 1971. A dedicated serviceman, Bobby proudly served in the United States Marine Corps and later retired from the North Carolina Army National Guard. He also enjoyed a fulfilling career at Smurfit Stone Container, where he worked until his retirement. Bobby was a devoted member of Shady Side Presbyterian Church, known for his steadfast faith and service to the community.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Andrea Brown; his great-granddaughter, Zana Mitchell; and three brothers: Anthony Jimmison, Barry Mitchell and Jeffrey Mitchell.
Bobby's memory will forever be cherished by his loving family, including his four children: Yolanda Anderson of Washington, DC, Qurstina (Charles) Carey of Charlottesville, VA, Pamela Mitchell of Winston-Salem, NC and Eric Mitchell of Lexington, NC; eight grandchildren: Saqwon Adams, Xavien Mitchell, Jaleom Adams, Eric X. Mitchell, Asriel Thomas, Ethan Anderson, Jordan Mitchell and Zoe Odom; and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Karl Mitchell of Thomasville, GA; five sisters: Rozelia Kay (Anthony) Pate and Alice Faye (Antonie Geralds) McKnight, both of Lexington; Carrie Smith of Thomasville, GA, Sherri Mitchell of Tampa, FL and Beverly Singletary of Amsterdam, NY; along with a large extended family of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.
A public viewing will be held on Saturday from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Roberts Funeral Service. A celebration of Bobby's life will take place on Sunday at 2:30 pm at Shady Side Presbyterian Church, with family visitation starting at 1:30 pm. He will be laid to rest with full military honors on Monday at 11:45 am at Salisbury National Cemetery.
