Bobby Gene Powell, 64 of Winston Salem, North Carolina passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at his home. He was born on June 10, 1958 in Forsyth County, North Carolina. He was born on June 10, 1958 to Jesse Kelly Hairston and Mildred Manning Watson in Forsyth County, North Carolina.


Bobby was a graduated in 1976 from Richard J. Reynolds Sr. High School in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. After his high graduation Bobby Powell Enlisted in the US Marine Corp. in 1976 and served 4 ½ years. While in the armed forces his tour of duty included Paris Island, France, Italy, Germany, Miami, FL, Norfolk, VA, and Camp Pendleton, CA. He was later discharged in 1980. He would go on to further his education at Rutledge College and Forsyth Tech. graduating with an Associates Degree in Computer Science/Data Entry and Mathematics.


Bobby Powell worked for three years in the VA Administration of the Federal building in downtown Winston-Salem as a file clerk. He later worked at Hanes Hosiery, Stratford Rd. location for 10 years as a machine operator. However, for the past 26 years, Bobby Powell worked as a devoted employee at the Winston-Salem Journal in the printing department.

Religiously, Bobby accepted Jesus Christ at the tender age of 10 ans was baptized at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church where he served as an usher and sang in the children's choir for most of his childhood.


Funeral services will be held 12:00 P.M. Friday, February 24, 2023 at First Waughtown Baptist Church with visitation at 11:30 A.M. prior to the service. Burial will follow at Piedmont Memorial Gardens. Public viewing will be Thursday, February 23, 2023 from 1:00 P.M. - 5:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
