Obituary

Brenda Carol Hogan, the daughter of the late Matthew Oliver and Betty Maxine Hogan Oliver was born in Thomasville, North Carolina on January 26, 1948. On the morning of June 23, 2024, just before the sun came up, Brenda, the Love our lives, was peacefully called Home to be with the Lord, where she watched her first sunrise from Heaven.

Brenda received her education from Thomasville City Schools, where she graduated from the Historic Church Street School with the Class of 1966. She also attend Ashmore Business College. For many years, she was employed as a Program Secretary for Tom A Finch Community YMCA and later retired from Thomasville Medical Center as a Patient Account Representative.

Until her health was challenged, Brenda was a faithful, lifelong member of First Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a part of both the Willing Workers and Seniors' ministry. Brenda loved studying and listening to the Word of God. She was an avid supporter and attendee of noon day prayer service with Pastor Odessa McCoy at Zion Tabernacle FBH Church and enjoyed the online ministry of Pastor Amos Quick.

Brenda was a wonderful mother and grandmother who was always there when we needed her the most, offering support, wisdom and an abundance of love. She was devoted to both her friends and family alike, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, courage and strength.

Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, Matthew and Maxine Oliver; her brother, James Johnson; her sisters, Janice Johnson Hunter and Tammy Johnson; and a nephew, Henry Lee Dunlap, Jr.

Brenda leaves to cherish her fond memories, her son, Marty Hogan; daughter, Leslie Clark (Tony); three sisters: Sharon Downey (Jim), Josie Marsh (John) and Carmen Oliver; four aunts: Mary E. Parker, Emma Hogan, Shirley Hogan and Queen Oliver; one uncle, Sonny Fant; four grandchildren: Terequa Rucker (Shawn), Marcus Hogan, Jaylan Clark and Bria Clark; six great grandchildren: Adrianna, Eden, Sekou, Amyrah, Jayden, Jaycen and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The funeral service will be Saturday at First Missionary Baptist Church at 1:00pm with family visitation at 12:30pm.
