Carol Ann Clark Hargrave, 80, of Midway, passed away surrounded by her loved ones on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
Carol was born on January 25, 1944 in Davidson County to Marie Holman Clark and Frank Clark. She graduated from Dunbar High School in Lexington in 1962.
On October 23, 1965, Carol married her sweetheart, Sam "Sim" Hargrave, in Thomasville, NC. During their marriage, they spent a lot of time traveling as Sam was in the Air Force. They lived in California, Maryland, Taiwan and Virginia. During that time, they had three sons: Steve, Michael and Kenneth. They returned to North Carolina in 1989 and built their forever-home in Midway.
Carol was supervisor of Environmental Services at Medical Park Hospital where she retired in 2006. She later worked in the Lexington City Schools System, and retired in 2012.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Marie and Frank; her brother, Kenneth Clark; sister, Phyllis Lattimore; her brother-in-law, Reginald Hargrave and beloved nephew, Shawn Johnson. She is survived by her husband, Sam and their three sons: Steve (Patricia) Hargrave, Michael Hargrave and Kenneth Hargrave; six grandchildren: Brittany (Chris) Bradsher, Deanna Hargrave, Cody Hargrave, Sierra Hargrave, Daciana Grubert and Noah Hargrave and one great-granddaughter, Jagger Sanon. The oldest of seven, Carol is also survived by four siblings: Linda (Joe) Johnson, Darryl (Marie) Clark, Robert Verdell and Paulette (Rufus) Becoat; three sisters-in-law, Mildred Cross, Vivian Banks and Sharon Hargrave; three brothers-in-law, Timothy (Sylvia) Hargrave, Thurman Hargrave and James (Shirley) Hargrave and a host of nieces, nephews and cherished friends.
A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Carol will be forever missed. Carol cared so deeply for those around her and was heavily involved in her church until her health declined. Carol attended Salem Baptist Church of Lexington and served as a Deaconess and Missionary for over twenty years. She also served on the Kitchen Committee and was an original member of the Praise and Worship Team. We find comfort in knowing she is with our Lord and Savior.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at 12:30pm at Salem Baptist Church in Lexington with family visitation at 12:00 Noon. Burial will be Thursday at 10:00am at Salisbury National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Salem Baptist Church in her honor.
