Carrie Ruth Shelf Fulwiley, 99, of W. 25th Street, Winston-Salem, NC in her 99th Chapter of Life, heard the voice of Jesus incline unto her, "Rest my child" on Wednesday, June 12, 2019.
She was born on February 29, 1920 to the late Dolly Sprinkle in Forsyth County, North Carolina.She matriculated through the Winston-Salem Forsyth County School System and attended Kimberlee Junior High School.She had two children: John Henry Hicks and LaRue Fulwiley Taylor.
In the early 1950's, Ruth relocated to Washington, DC where she resided for several years.While living in Washington, DC she was employed with the U.S. Senate and there received numerous awards and citations for her service.After her tenure with the U.S. Senate, she retired and then relocated to Spartanburg, SC to reside with her daughter.Due to a period of illness, Ruth ventured back to Winston-Salem, NC where she resided until her passing.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Dolly Sprinkle; her husband, Lamar Fulwiley and her daughter, LaRue Fulwiley-Taylor.
Those precious ones left to cherish her life and memory are her son, John H. Hicks; five grandchildren: Heron Warren, John Otis Burnside, Roderick Hicks, Dawn Roy and Robbin Stoney; a host of great grandchildren; a devoted care giver, Elizabeth Johnson and a host of other family and friends.
The Joyous Homegoing Celebration honoring a life well lived will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 20, 2019 from the St. John Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, 350 NW Crawford Place, Winston-Salem, NC 27105 with the family hour of visitation at 10:00 a.m.Her precious and mortal frame shall lie in repose on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Roberts Funeral Service, Winston-Salem Chapel.
