IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charles Owens
Holt
November 28, 1935 – November 16, 2021
Charles Owens Holt was born on November 28, 1935 in Lexington, North Carolina to the late Julianna Holt Chavers and George Washington Holt. Charles, affectionately known as "Peewee", was preceded in death by his brother, James Robert Holt; his sister, Georgianna Hearst; a daughter, Barbara Ann Tuttle, and a son, Charles Markel Fludd.
Peewee was educated in the Lexington City School system. He graduated from Dunbar High School in 1955. While at Dunbar, Peewee was a member of the Marching Band where he played 1st trumpet and was Class President.
Peewee was well known for his above average math skills. After high school, Peewee attended Livingstone College in Salisbury, NC before joining the United States Army. While enlisted in the Army serving in Germany, Peewee learned to speak fluent German.
Upon returning from the Army, Peewee married Nellie Pearl Harris and two children were born from this union: Cyretta Lynn Holt, and Emily Denise Holt Mitchell.
Peewee migrated to New York in 1969 where he built a life working for the City Marshal. In 1970 he met his love Sharon Fludd, and they had two children, Charles Markel Fludd, and Sherri Carrington.
During his early years, Peewee attended Ezekiel AME Zion Church in Lexington, NC. While living in New York City, Peewee fellowshipped and faithfully supported the Bronx Christian Fellowship Baptist Church Pastored by Susan "Sujay" Johnson-Cooke.
Upon retiring and returning home to North Carolina in 1999, Peewee became a disciple at Union Baptist Church where he fellowshipped and faithfully supported that ministry.
Peewee was well known for his intelligence, wisdom, kindness and generosity, especially among his close friends and family. He was a bright star in the Holt family and close to many of his cousins, specifically, "The Golden Girls".
After retirement, Peewee could be found on the golf course where he enjoyed a good round to the fullest along with his uncle, and best friend, Shelly Owens.
Peewee had a special relationship with his uncle Shelly who was more like a brother. They were stationed in Germany together during their time in the U.S. Army. They shared an affinity for golf and the camaraderie and competition kept them entertained for years. When not golfing, PeeWee enjoyed hanging out with his buddy, William "Bill" Shepard.
Charles Owens Holt transitioned to his heavenly home on November 16, 2021. Peewee leaves to cherish his memory his oldest brother, Olin Owens, of Winston-Salem, NC; his three daughters, Cyretta Lynn Holt, Emily Denise Holt Mitchell, Sherri "Mima" Carrington, son in law, Kenneth L. Carrington, son, Marvin Holt, eleven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild, a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, classmates, and many, many friends.
