Obituary

Charles Edsel Woodberry, Sr., affectionately known as "Cha Cha" or "Chuck" by family and friends, departed this life on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center.

Born on February 3, 1970 to the late Will Woodberry and Virginia Sue Holt Woodberry, Charles grew up in Lexington, North Carolina where he graduated from Lexington Senior High School, Class of 1989. During his time in high school, he was a proud member of both the basketball and football teams.

Charles was a hardworking man who dedicated many years of service to Leggett & Platt before later working with Woodgrain Distribution. He attended church at Florida United Holy Church. Cha Cha was the heart and soul of any gathering-his infectious energy, love for dance and warm spirit made every moment brighter. He was passionate about sports, an unwavering Dallas Cowboy, Duke basketball and Notre Dame college football fan.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his four brothers: Byron Holt, Woody Woodberry, Reginald Woodberry and Keith Woodberry, as well as his father-in-law, Sylvester Hairston, Sr.

He leaves behind a loving and devoted family, including his wife, Sylvia H. Woodberry; his three children: Charlisa Woodberry, Charles "CJ" Woodberry, Jr. and Courtney Woodberry; five grandchildren; two sisters, Gwendolyn Holt and Maggie (Greg) Hicks-Burns; his brother, Adrian (Nichol) Woodberry; his mother-in-law, Ernestine Hairston; two brothers-in-law, James (Denee) Hairston and Sylvester D. Hairston, Jr.; two sisters-in-law, Sandra (Jim) Vaughters-McPhaul and Selena Hairston; a special niece, Tera (Orlando) Craven; two godchildren, Desmond Crosby and Myles Crosby; four aunts: Ruth H. Small, Sylvia (Timothy) Hargrave, Elnora H. Nance and Allie Mae Holt; and his uncle, Roy (Pat) Holt. He will also be deeply missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 10, 2025 at First United Methodist Church at 1:00 PM, with family visitation beginning at 12:15 PM. Burial will follow at South Lexington City Cemetery.

Though Charles is no longer with us in body, his joyful spirit, love and laughter will remain in our hearts forever.
