Obituary

Charlotte Collson Pickett was born October 31, 1932 on her father's birthday. She was the daughter of Henry Ranger Collson and Myra Twine Collson.

She was a lifelong resident of Greensboro and a member of First Presbyterian Church where she was baptized. She joined the church as a young teen and was always active in youth groups and remained active there throughout her life.

Mrs. Pickett attended the Greensboro City Schools and graduated from Greensboro Senior High School, now Grimsley. She graduated from Women's College, now UNCG in 1955 with a degree in primary education. Right after college, she taught third and fourth grades at Sternberger Elementary School for three years before her first child was born. When both children started school, she substituted in the city school system for many years. In 1981 she began working at Smith Furniture and Gifts and worked there as office manager and sales person for 25 years.

Mrs. Pickett married Herman Newton Pickett, Jr. in 1956 in the newly built chapel at First Presbyterian Church. They were married 57 years.

Mrs. Pickett was a deacon and elder of the church. She was a member of the Agape Sunday School Class and a former president of the class. She was a member of Presbyterian Women and a lay leader. She was a longtime member of Bud 'n' Blossom Garden Club, Scanners Book Club, as well as a bridge club and sharing group. She was a former volunteer of Cone Hospital Cardiac Rehab.

Mrs. Pickett was survived by daughter, Charlotte Ruth Pickett and her husband William McCown, son H.N. (Skip) Pickett, III and his wife London Lake Pickett, as well as two very special grandsons, Allen Collson Pickett of Lewisville, N.C. and Banks Julian Pickett of Richmond, Va.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 12 at 2 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church sanctuary in Greensboro. To live stream the service go to:
