Christopher DeWayne Mumford, affectionately known as "Moon Dog", 65, was born and raised in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He peacefully transitioned from this life at his home on August 9, 2025 after a lengthy illness. Christopher was born January 10, 1960 to Elnora Bohannon Mumford and the late Arthur Rayfield Mumford.
Christopher was educated in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools and later worked for "Cover All of The Carolina's" and "Indera Mills" until his health no longer allowed. Known for his sense of humor, kindness and big heart, "Moon Dog" was a favorite uncle to all his nieces and nephews. He had a gift for bringing laughter and joy to everyone he met.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving mother, Elnora Wallace Bohannon Mumford of Winston-Salem; siblings: LaTreva Mumford of New York, New York and Iris Fulton of Winston-Salem, Vincent Mumford (Monique) of Winston-Salem and Andre Carlos Mumford (Mechelle) of Clemmons; nieces: Ila Mumford, Kiara Mumford, Ija Mumford, Lola Mumford, Kesha Fulton, Jermeka Fulton, all of Winston-Salem; a host of great-nieces and great-nephews; other relatives; a devoted cousin, Patrice Sheff (Richard); and a devoted friend, Phyllis Scales.
Christopher "Moon Dog" Mumford will forever be remembered for his warm spirit, his unforgettable laughter and the love he shared so freely with his family and friends.
His life will be celebrated at 12 noon on Thursday, August 14, 2025 at Second Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, with visitation at 11:00 AM prior to the service. Interment will follow at Piedmont Memorial Gardens. A public viewing will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2025 from 1:00 PM - 6:00 PM at the funeral home.
