Our cherished Clarence Oliver Winston, Sr., entered Heaven's Gates on Monday, April 22, 2024 at Hinkle Hospice House.
He was born June 30, 1946 in Davidson County to the later Clarence Friday and Alfreda Winston Jones. Clarence attended the state school for the Blind and Deaf in 1964 in Raleigh, North Carolina. In school, his classmates called Clarence "Zing-Zing." His favorite motto in school was, "It is only the ignorant who despise education!" Some of his activities included track, student council and Senior class president. He was also the basketball manager, a Sunday school teacher and on the dormitory committee for senior boys.
Clarence worked for the City of Lexington for many years. He also worked for Coca Cola Plant as a mechanic and he helped do odd-and-end jobs for many people. He loved making people laugh and he was always telling jokes.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Eaves Winston; his brothers: Lonnie Winston, Shayron Winston, Devernie Winston and Mark Jones.
He leaves to cherish his memories, three children: Olivera Ann Winston (Jermain), Clarence Oliver Winston, Jr. (Amy) and Wilma Jean Winston (Johnny); his brother, Warren Winston; his sisters, Roxanne Winston and Ulisa Deloatch (Joe); 10 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren; an aunt, Aquilla W. Sampson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The funeral service will be Saturday at Roberts Funeral Service at 2:00pm with family visitation at 1:30pm. Public viewing will be Friday at Roberts Funeral Service from 1:00pm-6:00pm.
