Cornellia Jacqueline Thomas was born on May 23, 1949 to the late George and Edrena Mock Thomas at Lexington Memorial Hospital. Cornellia attended public schools in Davidson County North Carolina. She graduated from Dunbar High School in Lexington, N.C. in 1967. She then attended Durham Business College. After business school, she gave birth to her only child, Dwain Thomas, who currently resides in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Cornellia worked for the Veteran's Administration of the United States as a Pharmacy Specialist in Brooklyn, New York. After 30 years of service, Cornellia retired from federal service. She returned to Midway, N.C. to take care of her ailing mother and then father while working part time. She embraced the community, making herself available for those in need whether it was sewing, styling hair or providing transportation to those in need.
Cornellia accepted Christ at a very early age at Brooks Temple United Methodist Church in Midway, NC. She continued to serve the Lord throughout her time in New York. Upon returning to Midway, she would attend church with her ailing mother, rarely ever missing a Sunday. Her commitment to family was on display day in and day out'
Cornellia was a loving and caring mother and daughter who did not hesitate to offer kindness and generosity to others. She had a warm and pleasant smile and loved to joke and spend time with her family and close friends.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, George and Edrena Thomas; her sister, Janet Faye who was a twin, and a younger brother, Aaron Bernard. Cornellia leaves to celebrate her life and memory, a loving son, Dwain L. Thomas; a brother, Johnny R. (Sylvia) Thomas, Brigadier General USMC (Retired), and two cherished nephews, Jeffrey and Scott. Cornellia was truly blessed with many more: aunts, uncles, great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Homegoing services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, November 9, 2024 at Brooks Temple United Methodist Church with visitation at 10:00 A.M. prior to the service. Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery. Public viewing will be held at the church only on Saturday.
