Debora Louise Mason Barnes was born on Monday, June 16, 1952, in Davidson County, North Carolina, to the late Peyton Moses Mason, Sr. and Louise Clemmons Mason. On Wednesday, July 23, 2025, Debora peacefully entered eternal rest at Lexington Health Care, surrounded by love and comfort.
Debora received her early education through the Lexington City School System and graduated with pride from Lexington Senior High School as a member of the Class of 1970. With a strong work ethic and a heart for service, she dedicated over 20 years of her life to the Davidson County Shelter Workshop.
A woman of deep faith and unwavering devotion, Debora was a long-standing and faithful member of First Baptist Church, located on Village Drive in Lexington, North Carolina.
In addition to her loving parents, Debora was preceded in death by her beloved son, Marius Lamar Mason, and her dear brother, Peyton Moses Mason, Jr.
Debora leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion. She is survived by her sister, Rachel Mason McCants; her uncle, Thurman (Carrie) Clemmons; and her aunt, Magalene (Joseph) Ferguson. Also cherishing her memory are her niece, Dontressa Mason; three nephews: Kevin Mason, Steven Mason, and Edward Medley; and two goddaughters, Rolanda Cathcart and Alina Henderson.
Debora also held a special place in her heart for Tonya L. Shaw, Ja'Nautica Tate, and Ny'Zerion Mason, whom she loved. In addition, a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, extended family members, church family, and countless friends will continue to remember her gentle spirit and gracious heart.
Debora Louise Mason Barnes lived a life of quiet strength and unwavering faith. Her legacy will continue to shine through the lives she touched and the love she gave so freely.
A Homegoing Celebration honoring her life will be held on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Village Drive. The family will receive friends at 2:30 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow at South Lexington City Cemetery.
