A light from our household is gone, A voice we love is still. A place is vacant
In our home, which never can be filled.
Mother Delores Annette Nivens Simpson, 82, exchanged earthly work for eternal reward and earthly rest on Tuesday afternoon, August 20, 2024 while in the comfort of her home. On a wintery 24th day of February in 1942, she was born to the late Jessie Nivens and DeWitt Wells in Winston-Salem, North Carolina at Reynolds Hospital (now Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center).
Delores, affectionately known as "Mother Simpson", received her formal education from the local Winston-Salem Forsyth County Public Schools and was a class of 1960 graduate from Atkins High School. Being a young and adventurous woman, she relocated to New Haven, Connecticut after graduating. While residing in New Haven, she was employed with JBT Manufacturing.
As life would have it, in 1976 Mother Simpson returned to Winston-Salem, North Carolina and gave of her many talents and deeds at Bassett Sack, Inc. and she retired from RJ Reynolds. Wisdom and structure were qualities that she possessed, and she understood the need for Christ in her life. Spiritually, she was a faithful and dedicated member of Exodus Baptist Church where she served on the Missionary Board. She took great delight in overseeing the concession stand for the Tiny Vikings Pop Warner Football Team. Amid her various pastimes, she had a great zeal for Internet Café Games at South Klix to be exact. You didn't see Delores without Alice James, Zora Raiford and the late Evelena Clayborn not far behind; they were known by many as "The Golden Girls."
Mother Simpson was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph Williams Simpson; grandson, Troy L. Simpson, Jr.; and great-grandson, Jacquez D. Peake, Jr.
Her life and legacy will continue through her two precious children, Lisa T. Simpson, Troy L. (Carlissa) Simpon, Sr.; five grandchildren: Corey J. Simpson, Kayla S. Simpson, Jamia T. Reid Simpson, Kyuanna Napper, Tyrone Williams; six great-grandchildren: Chalis L. Fletcher, Aniya E. Simpson, Chelsea M. Fletcher, Charles R. Fletcher, IV, Che' L. Fletcher, Ayla D. Simpson; best friends, Carol Martin and Lillie Mae Brooks; devoted neighborhood caregivers, Greg McNeil and Michael Brooks; and a host of other family and friends.
A Service of Celebration honoring the Graceful Life of Mother Simpson will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at Genesis Victory Outreach Center with viewing at 12:00 P.M. prior to the service. Pastor Aldine Ingram, Jr. will render the word of comfort. Interment will follow the service privately with the immediate family.
