Obituary

Dennis Ervin Ramseur was born in Davie County, North Carolina on July 3, 1954 to the parents of the late John Ervin and Stella Mae Ramseur. After the passing of Stella Mae, his stepmother, Gladys Ramseur continued to help his father nurtured him in life . His journey in life came to an end on Monday, May 8, 2023 while a patient at Gordon Hospice House, Statesville, North Carolina. We give honor and thanksgiving to Our Lord and Savior for allowing us the opportunity to share the life of a man who will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and love for his family, church, and community.


"Popeye" as he was affectionately known, was educated in the Iredell County Public Schools, North Carolina. He was last employed with JPS Depository as a Machine Operator. Dennis was a faithful member of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church, Statesville, North Carolina and served on the Usher board and Men's Ministry. Enjoy watching drag racing, especially hot rods was one of his favorite pastimes, along with fishing, and watching his favorite football team, The Carolina Panthers. Never meeting a stranger, Popeye made anyone he met feel special and like family!


In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by a sister, Willie Bell "Chippie" Oakley.


Dennis's love, legacy and countless memories will be forever treasured by his children: Rosalind Mayfield, Charlotte, North Carolina, Derrick Wilson, Mocksville, North Carolina, and Brien (Stormy) Foote, Mocksville, North Carolina; three sisters: Nannie James and Barbara Gaither, both of Statesville, North Carolina and Audrey Ramseur, Virginia Beach, Virginia; one grandchild; two aunts: Lottie Chambers, Statesville, North Carolina and Betty James, Harmony, North Carolina; an uncle, Shirley (Mildred) Ramseur, Harmony, North Carolina; special companion, Portia Wilson; a special cousin, Priscilla Cockerham; a best friend, Perry Wayne Lackey; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.


Funeral arrangements celebrating his life will be held 3:00 PM. Friday, May 12, 2023 at Chestnut Grove Baptist Church, Statesville, North Carolina with visitation at 2:00 PM prior to service time. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Public viewing will be Thursday, May 11, 2023 from 1:00 P.M. - 6:00 P.M Roberts Chapel (Mocksville).
