IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dexter
Boger
October 23, 1953 – December 30, 2025
Dexter Boger, born on October 23, 1953 in Lexington, North Carolina, was the beloved son of Rosa Boger and the late Mr. Boger. On his peaceful transition from this life, he leaves behind a legacy rooted in love, faith, music and family.
A proud Lexington native, Dexter dedicated many loyal years of service to Lexington Furniture, where he later retired. He was a man of unwavering faith and was of the Baptist faith. His love for the Lord was reflected in the way he lived and in the gospel music that meant so much to him. Dexter could often be found listening to his favorite gospel groups—especially The Williams Brothers—on his phone or television, letting those timeless voices lift his spirit. Music brought him joy, not only as a listener but as a guitar player. He enjoyed picking his guitar from time to time and valued being in the presence of others who shared the same passion for music and fellowship.
Dexter was also a passionate sports fan. He proudly rooted for his beloved Dallas Cowboys and stood firm as a die-hard UNC Tar Heels supporter, cheering them on with heart and pride.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, David Charles Boger; his sisters: Josephine Payne, Shirley Medley, Dorothy Hamilton, and Kaye Boger; and his brothers-in-law, Coy Medley Sr., Ozzie Hamilton, and Bobby Payne.
Dexter leaves to cherish his memory his loving children, Cedric Boger (Faye) and Kelly Boger Walser (Jeremy). He is also survived by his devoted companion of over 30 years, Jimmie Cross, who faithfully stood by his side through every season of life, especially as his health began to decline. He lovingly embraced his bonus children, Shay Cross and Mikey Cross (Chevon) as part of his extended family.
He was a proud grandfather to 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, and equally proud of his 7 bonus grandchildren and 6 bonus great-grandchildren. He is further survived by a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends who will forever hold his memory close.
Dexter also had a special connection to his black Chevy truck—affectionately known as "Black Is Back"—a simple joy that brought him pride and a smile.
Though he is no longer physically with us, we find peace in God's promise:
"To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord." — 2 Corinthians 5:8
The funeral service will be Sunday at Files Chapel Baptist Church with family visitation at 2:00pm and funeral at 2:30pm. Burial will follow at South Lexington City Cemetery.
