Mr. Donald Eugene Ijames, 82, of Mocksville, after a brief period of illness, transitioned from this earthly realm to a new dimension on December 9, 2022, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC.
Donald, affectionally and mostly known as Pooch or Poochie, was born on March 24, 1940, in Davie County to the late Wesley Roosevelt and Ira Wilson Ijames. In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his brothers, Alvis Thomas Ijames, Claude Calvin Ijames, Franklin Nathaniel Ijames, and sister, Ruth Faye Sales.
Donald grew up in Davie County and attended Davie County schools. He was a quiet soul exhibited many characteristics of his mother Ira of quiet time and reflection. He honorably served in the US military from 1958 – 1960 including a tour of duty in Germany. Professionally, he operated his landscape and lawn maintenance business for over 40 years. Donald was a former member of Mainville A.M.E. Zion Church where he served as a member of Usher Board, Men's Choir, Christian Education Department and Lay Council. He enjoyed fishing, watching stock car racing and walking around Mocksville.
Donald leaves behind his siblings Betty Naylor, William Ijames, and John Ijames all of Mocksville and a host of nieces and nephews to cherish his memory. Although he had a quiet strength his presence will surely be missed.
0n Wednesday, December 14, public visitation will be held from 1:00 pm – 6 pm at Roberts Funeral Service. Family visitation will be held on Thursday at 1:30 pm at New Jerusalem Apostolic Church of Mocksville followed by service at 2:00 pm.
