Her courage, her smile, her grace and her "larger than life qualities" are just a few words that personified Evangelist Doris Ann Wilson Jenkins. Evangelist Jenkins entered eternal rest Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist-Lexington Medical Center in Lexington, North Carolina. She was born January 3, 1962 in Davidson County, North Carolina. She was the daughter of Lawrence Timothy Wilson, Sr. and Dorothy Marie Kindle Wilson who preceded her in death. Doris had a powerful, beautiful voice that was distinctive and unforgettable. Today the music is quiet, the sun has set but Doris' memory and life was a gift to so many and we were truly blessed to have known her. She gave generously through her talents of song, cooking, love, laughter and joke-telling to all she encountered. She often shared that her favorite book of the Bible was Job because he knew how to "wait on the Lord." Sister Doris will be missed and we are comforted knowing she is soaring with the Angels.
Educated in the Lexington City Schools, she graduated in the class of 1980 from Lexington Senior High School. She worked at Little Bo Peep Daycare for many years. She loved playing board games and badminton with the children.
Evangelist Jenkins and her family were life-long members of Good Hope Fire Baptized Holiness Church. Never idle, she served as Assistant Pastor, Sunday school teacher, evangelist and treasurer. She was family-oriented and enjoyed spending time with her many children. She can be referred to as the community resident soloist. Even if she did not feel well, she would make time to assist a bereaved family with a heart rendering song for the homegoing services. A song that she sang that would move your soul was "I Go To the Rock." Two of her favorite songs are Fred Hammond, "Blessed" and Charlie Wilson, "I'm Blessed."
She has finished her course and wears a crown of righteousness as she joins her parents; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Jonnie Mae Jenkins and Cleo Jenkins, Sr.; and two brothers-in-law, Timothy Jenkins and Bishop Coleman Walker in a place of tranquility and peace.
Loving memories will forever remain in the hearts of her husband, Larry D. Jenkins, Sr.; two sons, Larry Daniel Jenkins, Jr. and O'Bryan Jenkins; two daughters, Halley Marie Jenkins and Shatoria Danielle Jenkins; four "adopted" children: Shawann Bellamy, Pastor Javon Parker, Nasheed Peoples and Jesus Arambula; three brothers: Minister James (Clara) Wilson, Minister Lawrence (Donese) Wilson, Jr. and Elder Allen (Jackie) Wilson; a sister, Sharon W. Walker; a goddaughter, Aliyah Threadgill; brothers-in-law: Anthony (Rosalind) Jenkins, Phillip Jenkins and Cleo Jenkins, Jr.; four sisters-in-law: Lora J. (Ernest) Terry, Ruth J. Williams, Jean Jenkins and Patricia J. Ramseur and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends. "You all know who you are; all your hearts still know her touch."
The funeral service will be Saturday at Good Hope FBH Church at 2:00pm with family visitation at 1:30pm. Burial will follow at Lexington City Cemetery. Public viewing will be Friday from 1:00-7:00pm at Roberts Funeral Service.
