Mr. Earl Jenkins Bobo was born in Ware Shoals, South Carolina on May 7, 1942 to Arthur Lewis Jenkins and Mary Bobo Richards. He passed away on June 30, 2023 at Duke University Hospital in Durham, North Carolina.
He was an honor graduate of Dunbar High School class of 1960 and was the class president. Earl went to North Carolina College at Durham (North Carolina Central University) and Indiana University. Mr. Bobo began his career at Ellis Johnson High School in Laurinburg, NC as an English teacher. He later accepted a position at North Carolina Central University as an English Professor. Over the years, Earl worked at Fayetteville State University and also Durham Technical Community College. After retiring, Earl became a substitute teacher for the Durham County School system.
He was a faithful member of St. Joseph AME Church in Durham, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He leaves to cherish his memory, two brothers, Benjamin Richards and Paul A. Richards; three sisters: Eloise R. Akwuba, Sharon R. Ward and Patricia R. King; a bonus son, William T. Carter; bonus grandchildren: Cheven Hargrave, Kaela Carter and Madyson Carter and a great-grandchild; five aunts: Pearlee McMillian, Carrie Bobo, Kathleen (Carlton, Sr.) Pittman, Vernice Lindsay and Fannie Mae Yarbrough and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The homegoing service will be Tuesday at Files Chapel Baptist Church at 2:00pm with family visitation at 1:00pm. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park.
