Eddie Darrell Fields, Sr. was born September 28, 1956 in Baltimore, Maryland to Elizabeth Pearson Fields and Aree Caple. He was raised in a Christian home with his late grandparents, Urshell and Elizabeth Pearson along with two cousins, who he considered his sister and brother.
Eddie accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Union Baptist Church, along with his family. Later he attended Ministries of Truth in Winston-Salem, where he was residing. He later attended Christ Deliverance Temple, where he became an Armor Bearer. Mr. Fields was a faithful and avid Bible study member until his illness prevented him from attending. He was a true prayer warrior through it all.
Eddie attended Lexington City Schools and joined the United States Marine Corps. He also attended and graduated from Nash County Community College. Mr. Fields loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He loved football and was an avid Raiders fan.
On January 7, 2024, Eddie passed away. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Smith Fields; grandparents, Urshell and Elizabeth Pearson; father, Aree Caple; mother and adopted father, Charles and Elizabeth Fields, Jr.; a brother, Charles Fields, III and grandson, Ashton J. Love.
Survivors include his three children: Darrick (Kim) Horton, Monica Fields and Eddie Fields, Jr.; a bonus daughter, Raylette (Harold) Rivers; nine grandchildren: Paisley Marinke, Elijah Horton, Ny'Lasia Brown, Ma'Jayla Bowles, Xavier Butler, Kelvin Love, Jr., Kristina Love, Eddie Fields, III and Aiden Dupree; two sisters, Scarlette (Charles) Fields-Johnson and Wenifer Ann (Larry) Diggs; a special sister, Ramona Pearson Hunter and a special brother, Urshell "Charlie" Pearson; two aunts, Rev. Minnie D. Pearson and Mary P. Perkins; an uncle, Edward L. (Mollucye) Pearson, Sr.; two special nieces, Amanda Hunter and Tracey (Seraphin) Joseph and a host of other relatives and friends.
A warm thank-you is extended to his caregiver and longtime friend, Faye Fields, for everything she has done. Also, thank-you to Nancy with Trellis Hospice Supportive Care for comfort during his transition.
Funeral service will be Saturday at Noon at Union Baptist Church with family visitation at 11:30am. Burial will follow at South Lexington City Cemetery. Public viewing will be Friday from 1:00pm -5:00pm at Roberts Funeral Service.
