Obituary

Mrs. Edna V. Smith Griffin, 89, of Jubilee Rd., passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at the Hinkle Hospice House.

The funeral service will be Monday at 11:00am at Tyro United Methodist Church with family visitation from 10:00am until 10:45 am followed by Eastern Star rights. Burial will follow at Historical Salisbury National Cemetery.

Public viewing will be Sunday from 1-7pm at Roberts Funeral Service.

She was born on January 30, 1926 in Rowan County to Joseph and Martha Henderson Smith. She retired from Golden Age Nursing Home. Mrs. Edna was a member of Union Chapel AME Zion Church and served on the Missionary board, kitchen committee, Deaconess board, past president of the Usher board and sang with the Zionettes. She was also a member of Golden Link Chapter #543, Order of the Eastern Star, PHA. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Griffin Sr.; a son, Ronnie Griffin and two brothers, Joseph and William Smith.

She leaves to cherish her memory her two sons, James (Doris) Griffin, Jr. and Rev. Jimmy (Alice) Griffin; two daughters, Sharon (Reggie) Hargrave and Angela (Zane) Dalton; a daughter-in-law, Denise Griffin; an adopted son, Shondo (Geraldine) Perkins; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; a brother, Leroy (Jeanette) Smith; two sisters, Robena Jones and Hazel Griffin; a sister-in-law, Margaret P. Smith; a brother-in-law, Curtis (Betty)Griffin; a special cousin, George (Earldene) Smith and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A special thanks to Dr. Terry Arnold, Dr. Dale Brown, Hinkle Hospice House, Smiles by Designs and Tony Giles for all the love, help and support.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Union Chapel AME Zion Church.
