Mrs. Edrena Mock Thomas, the daughter of the late Odell and Pearl Clinghman Mock, was born May 13, 1930. She departed this life on December 3, 2016 at 10:03 P.M. at the Kate B Reynolds Hospice & Palliative Care Center, Winston Salem, N.C. at the young age of 86.
"Pean" or "Pearl," as she was affectionately called, graduated from Dunbar High School in Lexington NC. She met and married George Thomas of Midway, N.C. To this union four children were born:Cornellia, Janet and Johnny (twins) and Aaron.
Edrena led a full and glorious life filled with family and friends. She accepted Jesus Christ at a very early age and allowed him to guide her along life's wonderful journey. She never missed an opportunity to worship the Lord.She served in numerous positions in Brooks Temple United Methodist Church: financial secretary, Sunday school teacher and communion steward. Noted for her smile, she could literally light up a room. Edrena served as a role model for her family and anyone else she encountered. She worked over 33 years in the Davidson County School System as a custodian at Welcome Elementary School. Her loyal and dedicated service received high praise from the state and county.She is fondly remembered by many teachers and administrators throughout the county. She touched hundreds if not thousands of students in a positive, nurturing way.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Thomas of Midway, N.C.; daughter, Janet Faye Thomas; son, Aaron Ber-nard Thomas; sister, Hazel Elizabeth Mock Hall of Midway, N.C.; and three brothers: Clevester Mock of Jamaica, N.Y., Norman Mock of Greensboro, N.C. and Rudolph Mock of Brooklyn, N.Y.
Edrena leaves behind to carry on her memories her devoted and loving daughter Cornellia Jacqueline Thomas who faithfully gave up a life in New York to return home to take care of both mother and father in their later years; son, Johnny Ray Thomas, Brigadier General USMC (Retired) and his wife Sylvia Elaine Lipscomb Thomas of Woodbridge, V.A.; three grandsons, Dwain Thomas of Winston Salem, N.C., Jeffrey (Megan) Thomas of Burbank, C.A., and, Scott (Kelly) Thomas of Wood-bridge, V.A.; one great granddaughter, Amelia Bella-Ann Thomas; two great step-grandsons, Tyler Redmon and Daelyn Hunt; two devoted sisters-in-law, Jacqulyn Mock of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Shirley Jones of Lawton, Oklahoma; one brother-in-law, Elwood Thomas of Lexington, N.C.; a special acknowledgement to her devoted nieces and nephew, Edith Hall, Mylinda Wooden and Earnest Hall of Midway, N.C. who she treated like they were her own children. They were always there to help care for her. Edrena was truly blessed with many more nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Edrena was loved by all!
Funeral services will be 1 PM Friday at Brooks Temple United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at the church.
Public viewing will be Thursday, December 8, 2016 from 1-7 p.m. at Roberts (Winston-Salem).
