Elbert Lee Cabbell, 90, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center.
The funeral service will be Friday at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Roberts Funeral Service of Winston-Salem by Rev. James D. Ballard, with family visitation a half hour before the service.Burial will follow at Salisbury National Cemetery at 1:00pm.
Public viewing will be Thursday from 1-8pm at Roberts Funeral Service.
He was born in Keystone, West Virginia to Morris Cabbell and Carrie Morris Cabbell on January 22, 1924.He graduated from Kimbell High School, West Virginia State University and was a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity.Cab, as he was known, was a member of Ezekiel AME Zion Church and served in the US Army in WWII.He retired from West Davidson High School after over 30 years in the teaching field.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Sam and Thomas Cabbell and two sisters, Louola Cabbell and Thelma Jones.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Cabbell of the home; a son, Leland Cabbell of Welcome; two daughters, Dr. Shelley (Gary) Hopson of Pikesville, Maryland and JoEvelyn (James) Leak of Durham; four grandchildren, Dawn Pearl Evelyn Lee, Rasheeda Cabbell, Traci M. Malloy and James Thomas-Spencer, Jr.; four great-grandchildren, Jordyn I. Malloy, Spencer T. Malloy, Claire J. Spencer and Avery R. Spencer; a brother, Marshall Cabbell of Cleveland, Ohio; a devoted aunt, Ollie Tuttle of Midway and a hostof in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
