Mr. Elmore B. David, Jr., 79, transitioned peacefully from life to eternal rest on October 22, 2023 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born on February 5, 1944, to the late William McDuffie and Estelle David in Bennettsville, South Carolina. His life journey took him to various places, leaving a lasting mark on the lives he touched.
Elmore was educated in the Columbia Heights Schools in Winston-Salem, NC. Through his years of employment, he worked in the transportation industry, including Winston-Salem Transit Authority, The Railroad Courier Services and various coach bus companies. He also enjoyed caring for families and worked with Roberts Funeral Service. His spiritual home was Hanes CME Church where he was nurtured under the Methodist faith. Elmore always fostered his roots in faith which supported his passion for music. He loved singing and playing the guitar. His favorite songs: Everybody Ought to Praise Him by the Mighty Clouds of Joy and Jesus is Love by the Commodores. He sang with various quartets throughout the city and surrounding areas, including Bill Pratt and The Gospel Crusaders. Elmore's love for fashion lead him to work as a salesman at Jean Glory Fashion Store in Winston-Salem, NC where he made many acquaintances in the city and took pride in assisting them with the latest styles.
Elmore was preceded in death by his parents, William McDuffie, Sr. and Estelle David; his grandparents, Elmore B. David, Sr., and Carrie David; and a son, Willie Hunt.
Elmore's memory will forever be cherished by his wife, Ruth David of Lexington, NC; his former wife, Hazel H. David of Brown Summit, NC and their children: Monica (Mamadou), Ann (Anthony); his daughter, Artiffany; his son, Reggie; his children by divine intervention; Myra McCoy (Antwan), Yvette H. Manuel (Tammy) and Cedaris Orr; his grandchildren: Sherard Spears, Krystle David, DeAndre West, Monisha David, Tijane Uluheua-Diallo (Tania), Kwane Fuller, Decora Mankins, Blissany Hunt, Quinton, Terrell and Bre'Miayh McKinney; 16 great grandchildren; he also leaves behind his brothers, Herman David of Georgia and William McDuffie, Jr. (Deborah) of Durham, NC; his beloved cousins, Lydia Hodges of Washington, DC and Lorraine Brown of Philadelphia, PA; his extended family of Lexington, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends that he loved dearly.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 P.M. Friday, November 10, 2023 ]at Roberts Funeral Service Chapel (Winston-Salem) with family visitation at 1:00 P.M. prior to the service.
