IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ernest Leon
Davis
March 27, 1953 – October 5, 2025
Ernest Leon "Chunk" Davis, 72, was born in Lexington, North Carolina to Charlie Davis and Willie Mae Johnson Davis. He peacefully departed this life on October 5, 2025.
Ernest proudly served his country in the United States Army as a member of the 101st Airborne Division. He retired from PPG Industries, was employed with the North Carolina of Correction and was a Lexington firefighter. He attended Surry County College and was a 1972 graduate of Lexington Senior High School.
Affectionately known as "Chunk," Ernest had a lifelong love for cars—especially the sound of gears shifting, and he enjoyed relaxing with a good cigar.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Davis and Willie Mae Johnson Davis and his sister, Cherry Ann Davis.
Cherishing his memory are his son, Eric (Amanda) Davis; two grandchildren, Zaviyan Davis and JaCari Davis; his brother, Charles (Phyllis) Davis; his sister, Evelyn Davis; his nephew, Kevin Mitchell; four nieces: Teeya Kernan, Mary Hargrave, Ruthie West and Charlsie Davis; a great-nephew, four great-nieces, and three great-great-nephews. He also leaves behind a host of other loving family members and friends. Ernest was recently engaged to his beloved fiancée, Avis Cox, who will forever hold him close in her heart.
Ernest loved his family deeply and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
