Floyd Phillips Scales of Winston-Salem, North Carolina was born on February 27, 1937 to the late Frank and Mabel Phillips Scales. In his 85th season of life, Floyd exchanged time for eternity on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center.
Floyd was a faithful and devoted member of First United Presbyterian Church of Boonville for a number of years, where he served as a Deacon.
He graduated from Yadkin High School in 1955. Graciously, he served in the Armed Forces in the United States Army in the early '60s.
Floyd began working at RJR Tobacco Company in the late '60s. He retired from RJR in the early '90s. He also worked at The Major League Bowling Alley and Brookridge Retirement Home.
He was a pitcher for several minor league baseball teams and also tried out for a major baseball league team.
Floyd was preceded in death by his wife, Shelby J. Dobson Scales; three brothers: Russell (Opal), Odell (Sonny) and Robert (Marilyn) Scales; and two sisters, Lucille Sherrill and Elsie Hoosier.
He leaves to cherish his memory, two sons, Phillip (DeJon) and Chad (Alvinia) Scales; one daughter, Shannon (Donald) Brown, all of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; one sister, Rev. Beatrice (Melvin) Morrison of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; eight grandchildren: Tocarr, Emmanuel, Da'Sean, Chaelin, Sha'Dona, Deshad, Chaniya and Micah; three godchildren: Dianne Shaw, Bernard, Jr. and Raynard Archie, all of Winston-Salem and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Homegoing services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, October 20, 2022 at First United Presbyterian Church of Boonville with family visitation at 12:00 P.M. prior to the service. Public viewing will be held Wednesday at the funeral home from 9:30 A.M.-5:00 P.M. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors. Facial coverings and/or masks are required for the services.
