Mr. Franklin Sylvon Hogan, affectionately known as Sylvon, was born on June 4, 1952 in Davidson County, North Carolina to Sara Estella Hogan Wise. He passed away peacefully at his residence on December 2, 2024.
Sylvon was lovingly raised by his grandmother, Mary M. Hogan, whose guidance shaped his remarkable character. He graduated from Central Davidson High School and retired from Young & Hinkle Furniture Factory where his dedication and craftsmanship left a lasting impression.
A man of many talents, Sylvon enjoyed baking, sewing, cooking and drawing, hobbies that showcased his creativity and passion. He was a member of New Jersey AME Zion Church where he previously sang in the choir, sharing his love of music and faith. Monday nights were especially meaningful to him as he attended Man Church, a gathering that nurtured his spiritual growth and fellowship. Franklin also found great joy in connecting with others and cherished his time talking on the phone with his many friends.
Franklin was preceded in death by his mother, Sara Estella Hogan Wise; his grandmother, Mary H. Hogan; and his sister, Carolyn Johnson.
He leaves to cherish his memory his sister, Katherine (George Wallace) Johnson; two brothers, Leon Hogan (Mary) and Willie Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews and other special family and friends who loved him dearly. Among his cherished relationships were four special friends: Tyler Allred, Crissie Hargrave, Shelia Kirk Johnson and Carol Walls Abel, whose bonds with Sylvon were especially dear to him.
The funeral service will be held on Sunday at 2:00 PM at New Jersey AME Zion Church, with family visitation at 1:30 PM. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing will take place on Saturday from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Roberts Funeral Service.
