Gail Marjorie Holmes-Winton passed away surrounded by love, leaving behind a legacy defined by a century of fierce tenacity that saw her through every chapter. A woman of extraordinary verbal eloquence, she possessed an attention to detail that left no stone unturned and a sharp, witty humor that could disarm or delight any room.

Residing in Durham, North Carolina, Gail built a life filled with family, purpose and a profound appreciation for the finer things. She had a beautiful eye for fashion, famously loved her big hats and took immense joy in the simple pleasures—exploring local cafes, singing and curating her garden to perfection. She was cherished for her playful antics and that vibrant spirit, which made her an unforgettable presence in the lives of everyone she touched.

Gail was the devoted mother of four daughters: Tammy Winton, Toyie Winton, Tonya Morrison and Teja Winton. She took immense pride in her large and loving family, including her ten grandchildren: Tomé Winton, Nigel Winton, Aaron Winton, Chadwick Winton, Joseph Winton, Johnathon Winton, Anjyla Morrison, Karl Morrison, Jr., Zipporah Morrison and David Cripezzi; her cherished great-grandson, Carter Mosley and a host of beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ophelia and Lee T. Holmes; and her beloved siblings: Mildred Michael, Bettie "Tootsie" Neely, Elizabeth Brown, Eugenia "Pat" Hargrave, Eugene "Bubby" Holmes, Manuel Holmes, Willard Holmes, Thomas "Tom" Holmes, Joseph Holmes and Hulin Holmes.

Her warmth, eloquence and strength remain in the hearts of all who knew her. While she will be deeply missed, her memory will continue to shine through the family she held so dear.
