Obituary

Garfield Sylvester Doulin was born on December 9, 1927 in Mocksville, North Carolina to John and Esther Doulin, both deceased.He was raised there with his 5 brothers and 2 sisters.He attended and graduated from Davie County High School, class of 1947.After High School he was drafted into the United States Army where he served in the Korean War.

Legend has it that while on leave from the Army, he came to Lexington, NC and met the love of this life, Frankie Hargrave.After serving his country, he received an Honorable Discharge and on April 5, 1953, they were married.They lived in Lexington for several years and he worked at the Manhattan Shirt Factory.In addition, he was a proud member of the Masonic Order.In 1955, their first daughter, Peachies, was born.They decided to move to Brooklyn, New York for better opportunities for the family.He was always precise with tools and making things with his hands which quickly got him a job in Tool and Die Making.In 1959, they were blessed with another child, Angela, and he enjoyed his family very much.He traveled with them to visit his family in Washington, DC, Long Island, NY and North Carolina. He had a BIG Heart and believed in helping his family and was a no-nonsense kind of man.In 1968 the last daughter, Sherri, was born.He was self-taught in Electrical Engineering which lead him into another line of work. Garfield worked for MTA New York City Transit as a Special Machinist and retired after 20 years (1968-1988) as a Supervisor of Power Distribution.After retirement, he and Frankie moved to Winston-Salem, NC.While in retirement, he was self-taught in using the computer and it quickly became one of his favorite hobbies.He had a love of cars and enjoyed watching professional car races and later on Golf, as long as Tiger Woods was playing.They enjoyed their life in the south with family and friends.

Garfield was called home on April 16, 2018, but his spirit will always live on in his family.He was preceded in death by his wife, Frankie Marie Doulin; his brothers: William, John, Adam and Roosevelt and sisters, Queen and Marion.He is survived by his brother, Cathell Doulin (Arnell), Lexington, NC; daughters: Ramona Mack (Stephen), Middletown, NY, Angela Doulin, Brooklyn, NY and Sherri Davis (Anthony), Brooklyn, NY; grandchildren: Lyndell Doulin, James Harris, Angela Harris and Sean Mack;great grandchildren, Lyndell Doulin, Jr. and Taylor Harris; special nieces: Rebecca Brooks, Lisa Smith, Anita Jordan and Tamarra and Tamiyah Jackson; his "Buddy" Nephew, Ves Rucker and a host of other family and friends.

The funeral service will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Florida United Holy Church with family visitation a half hour before the service.Burial will be Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Forest Hill Memorial Park, with Full Military Honors.Public viewing will be today from 4-7 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Service (Winston-Salem).
