Georgia Lash Givens, affectionately known as Ms. G, transitioned peacefully surrounded by her love ones on June 9, 2025 at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She was born on April 26, 1952 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina to the late Joseph Benjamin Lash, Sr. and Pearl Elizabeth Wilson Lash. Georgia lived a vibrant and spirited life, grounded in love, family and community.
Ms. G was educated in the Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools where she built the foundation for the strong, determined and generous woman she became. She was a devoted fan of both the Washington Redskins, now known as the Commanders, and the Winston-Salem State University Rams football team. She proudly served as a former member of the Travelers Booster Club. Her faith was unwavering, and she was an active and committed member of Cathedral of Refuge, where her presence brought joy and unity to everyone around her.
Ms. G was the life of the party, always smiling, always dancing and always making sure everyone was fed with love. Cooking was not just a hobby but a calling. Her kitchen was her sanctuary and her meals were the heart of every family gathering, often filled with laughter, stories and togetherness. She was preceded in death by her father; mother; sister, Barbara Tucker; and brothers: George Wilson, Joseph Lash, Jr. and Ronnie Lash.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory her four loving daughters, all of Winston-Salem: Katrina Summers, Donna (Calvin) Gantt, Jr., Antonette Givens and Angela (Thomas) Chisholm, Jr. She also leaves behind a devoted godson, Andrew Greer of South Carolina.
Her legacy continues through her beloved grandchildren: James Summers, Jr., Juan Summers, Calvin Gantt III, Jayla Royster, Tasheka Minor, Javon Summers, Corey Gantt, Allen Elder, Jashawn Summers, Brandon Givens, Kendall Avery, Ellis Greer, Frorcynthia Brunt, Shenika Summers and Brittany Robertson; and 38 great-grandchildren.
Ms. G also leaves behind her dear siblings: Mary Jeanette Wilson, Geneva (Harold) Brandon, Sr., Kathy (Nashid) Rahmaan and Geraldine (Freddie) Marshall, Sr. She also leaves one sister-in-law, Priscilla Lash.
Special loved ones who held a dear place in her heart include Porsche Jones and Daija Britt and her two best friends, Sachyal "Beasley" Terry and Patricia (Odell) Marshall, Sr.
Among those who will continue to honor her memory are a host of cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends who will forever carry her in their hearts. Her legacy of love, strength and service will live on in all who were blessed to know her.
Her life will be celebrated at 1:00 PM on Monday, June 23, 2025 at Cathedral of Refuge Church with family visitation at 12:30 PM prior to the hour of celebration. Ms. G will find earthly rest at Gardens of Memory. Public viewing will be held on Sunday, June 22, 2025 from 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM at the funeral home.
