Gertrude Harriette Cromwell, 78, of Connecticut, transitioned from this life on Friday, July 21, 2017, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina after a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at Roberts Funeral Service Chapel (Winston-Salem) with a family visitation one half hour prior to the service.Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery (3123 Indiana Ave. Winston-Salem, NC 27103)

Gertrude, affectionately known as "Nana," was born July 30, 1938, to the late Calvin Cromwell and Lena Sylvester in Wareham, Massachusetts where she also received her education.

Later in life she moved to Bridgeport, Connecticut where she worked for UCONN Cooperative Extension Service for over 26 years.

During her Christian journey, she was of the Baptist faith.Gertrude was also a member of the Elks Club in Bridgeport, Connecticut.She enjoyed her life to the fullest.She will be missed by all who loved and knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parent, Calvin Cromwell and Lena Sylvester; three brothers: Calvin Cromwell, Jr., Lorenzo Robert Cromwell and McKinnley Cromwell.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory her daughter, Judy Cromwell (Kenneth) Smith; a brother, James Robert Cromwell; two sisters; Dorthey Ann Cromwell and Lucy Ann Cromwell; three grandchildren: Andrew Cromwell, Danielle (Anthony) Cannon and Lyndsay Cromwell; three great-grandchildren: Jaida Jacobs, Andrew Cromwell, Jr. and Aria Cannon and a host of relatives and friends who loved her dearly.
