On Thursday, March 16, 2017, Harold Lee Evans, Jr. of Southmont, NC went to be with the Lord. Harold was a faithful member in the Lexington community. In June of 2003, Harold started the Lexington Chapter of the Alcoholics Anonymous Group. He served tirelessly with this group throughout his 20+ years of sobriety, as well as the Crisis Ministry of Davidson County. Harold was a compassionate man who had a heart for those whom society seemed to have left behind and had an uncanny way of making everyone feel special. A veteran of the US Navy, Harold was a person of consistency and dedication.
Harold was preceded in death by his father, Harold Lee Evans, Sr. He is survived by his mother, Ida Mae Pickett Evans of Southmont; dear brother and best friend, Stephen Todd Evans (Terri) of Bradenton, FL and Anthony Evans of Lexington, NC, and his sisters Tishia Ann Evans of Tyro, NC; Tamara Evans of Georgia; and Kimberly Nix of Lexington, NC. Two aunts are left to mourn him, Patricia Ann Williams, Chicago, IL and Barbara Sue (O.D.) Watson, also of Chicago. Although Harold never fathered children, he was a father and beloved uncle to many. Uncle Harold's name was often called by Brandon Evans, Julia Craven, Darien Evans-Hensley, Jasmine Nix, Amani Evans, Kahlia Carrick, and Aniyah Evans. His memory will live on through them, as well as his long-time friend, Yvette Worth of Salisbury, NC and grandchildren Taniyah Worth, Rockia Worth, Tyleek Worth, Shi Amar, Immanuel Worth, and Jameelah Alexander, all of Georgia. Since Harold made such an impact in the community, we could not possibly list everyone, but we know that he will be missed and remembered by scores of cousins, friends, and extended family.
Family and friends are asked to celebrate the life of Harold Evans by participating in the home-going service to be held on Monday, March 20 at First Baptist Church, Southmont at 11am. Viewing will be from 10:30am – 11:00am with the funeral service beginning at 11am. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that monetary donations be made to the Lexington Chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous and the Crisis Ministry of Davidson County. Donations will be accepted at the funeral.
Thank you, all, for your kind words of encouragement, expressions of love, and enduring compassion.
