Harry Roy Adelbert Watley, 75, passed away on March 22, 2021 in Long Island City, New York.He was born on May 7, 1945 to Harry S. Watley, Sr. and Ora Leona Daly in Charlotte Amalie St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. He was raised by his grandmother who he loved and cherished very much. At the tender age of 7 he migrated to Brooklyn, New York with his mother and step-father.They eventually developed into a blended family.
Harry graduated from Donald D. Scarborough School for Carpentry.He also attended BMCC, where he received a certificate for Citation of Achievement.He truly enjoyed learning.He would say, "Everyday you should learn something new".He used his carpentry skills and created "FloorCare Company", a handyman business, which flourished into FC Construction, where he was the proud CEO and operating General Contractor.
Harry also was a man of Faith.His consistent desire to learn led him to pass through different religious beliefs.He followed Islamic beliefs and culture in his younger years and in his later years he followed Christianity.He became a member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in San Angelo, TX.Even though he questioned some of the Islamic and Christian beliefs, he still attended various churches in Winston-Salem, NC and Mosque in Brooklyn, NY, prior to death.
Harry was a Mason through the Prince Hall affiliation; he received a NAACP Gold Medal Plaque Certificate for Lifetime Membership.He was a member of the San Angelo Task Force for Race Relations in San Angelo, TX.He also ran for Single member in District 4 in San Angelo, TX.He received a certificate for outstanding community service through FC Construction.He was an active member at the YMCA located on Waterworks Road in Winston-Salem, NC.He was also proud to be a part of their silver sneakers group.His competitive spirit awarded him several medals in the Senior Games as well.It is safe to say, there was no limit to the things that he could accomplish.He will be remembered for his style, drive and ambition, prestige confidence, strong personality and diplomatic fairness, "To love him is to know him" is an understatement.
He was preceded in death by Harry S. Watley Sr., Harry S. Watley Jr., and Jonathan E. Watley.He is survived by children, grand-children, great grand-children, family and friends
A public viewing will be held Friday, April 9, 2021 from 12:00 P.M. – 3:00 P.M. at Piedmont Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with interment to follow.In accordance with Covid-19 social distancing protocols, all guests are required to wear a face mask.
