Helen Roberts Long, daughter of the late Albert A. Roberts and Susie Voorhees Roberts, was born on September 27, 1922. Helen was the seventh of eight children. She departed this life on Friday, December 16, 2022. Helen was 100 years old.
Funeral service will be Tuesday at First Reformed United Church of Christ 2:00pm with family visitation at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park.
Helen was educated in public schools in Nashville, Tennessee. She received her Bachelor's Degree from Tennessee State University. She also received her Master's Degree.
She and V.K. Long, Jr. were married August 1, 1950. They lived in Lexington, NC. There she became a member of St. Stephens United Methodist Church. Helen was very active in the community. She retired from the Lexington City Schools System and taught Business at Dunbar High School and Lexington Senior High School for over 35 years. Helen did fundraisers for the schools where she taught. As a member of Abdallah Court No 166, she helped with various fundraisers to aid families in the community.
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Carol Long (Charles) Martin; two grandsons, Commander Kenyatta Martin of the U.S. Navy and Tafari (Yinka) Martin; two great grandchildren, Negasi Martin and Ayodelle Martin and a host of nieces, nephews other family and friends who dearly loved her.
