Mrs. Ida Bernice Hairston passed on January 10, 2021 at her residence.

She was born to Ellen Ellis Hairston on November 5, 1934. She graduated from Dunbar High School and retired from PPG Ind.Mrs. Hairston was a faithful member of New Zion Baptist Church where she served on the usher board, senior choir, prayer band and a member of the Rising Star Baptist Association.

She was preceded in death by her mother; her previous husband, Grover Lee Hairston, Sr.; two children, Joyce A. Hairston and Willie B. Hairston and three siblings: Floyd Hairston, Sr., Naomi Hairston and Thomas A. Hairston.

She leaves to cherish her memory six children: Grover Lee(Cynthia Smith) Hairston, Jr., Gloria (Ernest) McMillian, Rev. Wanda (Norris) Turman, Katrina Hairston, Jerrie (Darrel, Sr.) Clodfelterand Stephanie "Poo" Hairston all of Lexington; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; four siblings: Eloise Hairston, Virginia Hairston, Sylvester (Ernestine) Hairston all of Lexington and James (Carolyn) Hairston of Richmond, Va; four sisters-in-law, Carol Hairston of Maryland, Betty Burke of New Jersey, Naomi Sims and Nora Jean Hairston both of Lexington and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A private homegoing service will be Thursday at 2:00pm at New Zion Baptist Church with family visitation at 1:30pm.Burial will follow in the church cemetery.Public viewing will be Wednesday from 1:00pm – 5:00pm at Roberts Funeral Service, Lexington.
