Obituary

Jacob Bradley, Jr. was born in Lexington, North Carolina in 1958 to the union of Mozella Davis Bradley and Jacob Bradley, Sr. Jacob was fondly called Jake, Jr. by friends and relatives. Jacob was raised in a loving, nurturing family home. He leaves Mattie York, the oldest of the children, Cynthia Burns and Charles Bradley here to cherish his memory.

Jacob attended Lexington Senior High School and graduated in 1976. He committed his life to Christ by joining Union Baptist Church, Lexington, NC at an early age. After graduation, Jake entered the Air Force Armed Services and later earned an honorable discharge after 12 years of service to his country.

Jacob was hired by the Davidson County School System as a Central Office Administrator. Always wanting to pursue his academic goals, Jacob left the school system and was hired at Winston-Salem State University as an Administrator.

Jacob met and married Bobbye Hannah, his loving wife of 32 years. To this union was born a child, Shanele, who died early in life; two daughters, Velmeta (Marcus) and Ashley. Jacob has four grandchildren: Devontez, Miah, London and Phoenix. Jacob loved his family with unconditional love and was always there for them whenever they needed him. Phoenix, the youngest of the grandchildren, was the love of his life. They would Facetime each other all the time while he was confined in the facility. That was her "Pawpaw."

Jacob retired from Winston-Salem State University to enjoy his family and devoted his leisure time to playing golf and watching basketball. Playing golf was his passion. You could catch him on the golf course at any time.

Jacob became ill later in his life. He spent a lot of his remaining years since 2019 at the Davidson Health and Rehabilitation Facility in Lexington. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jake Bradley, Sr. and Mozell Davis Bradley and his daughter, Shanele.

Jacob was always the "joker" of the family. You would go visit him, and you would leave with a big smile on your face. He and Bobbye together made the perfect couple. Jacob never complained even though he was in pain. He would always say, "Keep our family together, let our younger children get to know each other, stay together as a family."

Jacob's warmth, strength, humor and spirit touched so many people during his lifetime. We will always remember him and never forget the happiness and joy he brought to our lives.

The funeral service will be Saturday at 1:00pm at Union Baptist Church with family visitation at 12;30pm. Burial will be Tuesday at 11:45am at Salisbury National Cemetery with full military honor.
