Obituary

James Walter "Walt" Austin was born on January 15, 1953 in Salisbury, North Carolina to Mary Elizabeth Brown-Austin and Willie Austin, Sr.James was called home to glory on Wednesday, September 30, 2020. .

James, affectionately known as "Walt," was a loving brother, uncle, cousin and friend.James was a United States Army Veteran who served his country proudly.During his tenure in the armed forces he was a recipient of the National Defense Service Medal.He was a custodial supervisor for the county of Forysth, Winston-Salem and retired after 25 years of dedicated service.

James was a "Die Hard" Dallas Cowboys fan who loved the intense action of the game of football.He was family oriented and loved to be with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Elizabeth Brown Austin; his father, Willie Austin, Sr.; his step-mother, Elizabeth Foster Allen; and brothers, Willie Austin, Jr. and Samuel K. Austin.

He leaves to cherish his memories his sister, Elizabeth Austin Johnson; two brothers, Johnny L. Austin (Sandra Glover), Joseph N. Austin; a special niece/daughter, Samantha Austin-Sanders; step-daughter, Maurissa Boston; a devoted nephew, Eugene "Lamont" Austin and his best friend, Dameon "Coach" Foster; his dog, "Roscoe" Austin and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

His life will be honored 1:00 P.M. Friday, October 9, 2020 from the sanctuary of Ministry for Christ Church, 2341 Patterson Avenue, Winston-Salem, North Carolina 27105. The Final Salute and Interment will take place 11:00 A.M. Thursday, October 15, 2020 in the tranquility of Salisbury National Cemetery, Salisbury, North Carolina.His mortal frame shall lie in repose Thursday, October 8, 2020 from 10:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. at Roberts Funeral Service, Winston-Salem Chapel.

In accordance with social distancing protocols, all guests are required to wear a face mask or covering for all services.
