James Thomas Martin, Jr. was born on March 19, 1946 in Davidson County to the late James T. Martin, Sr. and Elizabeth Jackson Martin. Affectionately known as "Tommy" or "Big Lugg" by those who knew him best, he peacefully passed away on Wednesday, October 29, 2025 at Trellis Supportive Care in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Tommy retired from Stanley Furniture and was a faithful member of First Calvary Baptist Church until his health began to decline. During his years of service, he was devoted to his duties as a Deacon and a member of the Finance Committee.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents, Vennie Leverette Jackson and Will Jackson and Adie Martin and Susie Norman Martin; his sisters: Vennie Martin-Ross, Rachel Cobbs and Margaret Bennett and his in-laws, James Ross, Ronnie Knotts, Diana Dye, Jimmy Knotts, Craven Knotts and Michael Knotts.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory his devoted wife of 57 years, Linda Knotts Martin; four children: Thomas (Veetra) Martin, Charles Martin, Sharon (Doug) Lindsey and Pam Martin; nine grandchildren: Thomas, Michael, Chris, Preston, Jarret, Ashley, Kintrell, Lauren and Kenneth; a great-grandson raised in the home, Hezekiah; fourteen great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Cora Saunders; three brothers-in-law, Donald (Eloise) Knotts, Stephen (Carmen) Knotts and Elder Henry Cobbs and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at First Baptist Church, Village Drive, with family visitation at 12:30 p.m. and homegoing service beginning at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Lexington City Cemetery.
The family will begin accepting visitors on Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at, 5460 Taylors Run Drive, Clemmons, NC.
