Elder Jasper "Jack" Verdell was the son of the late Johnnie "Bem" Verdell and Annie Verdell. Jasper "Jack" Verdell was born November 28, 1944 in Linwood, North Carolina and he attended Dunbar High School.
Elder Jasper Verdell was united in matrimony in May of 1970 to the beautiful Inez Walker Verdell. During their beautiful marriage their union was blessed with six children.
Jasper was an active member of Lexington Deliverance Tabernacle. During his time at Lexington Deliverance, Jasper was a dedicated member, serving on the board of trustees, prison ministry, outreach ministry and the men's fellowship. Jasper was a hardworking man; he retired from both Lexington Home Brands and Atrium Windows and Doors. As a result of his pleasant personality, Jasper was loved and respected by many and because of his kind spirit, his influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew him. He quietly departed this life Friday, January 6, 2023 where he was surrounded by his loving wife, kids and grandkids.
Jasper was preceded in death by his parents, Annie "Mae" Verdell and Johnnie Verdell; siblings: Robert "Baggy" Verdell, Donnie Verdell, Sr., Leo Verdell, Naomi Miller, Edna Norman, Bobby "Pee Wee" Verdell, Ray Verdell, Walter Leo Verdell; granddaughter, Keyona Verdell; and daughter, Ruby Fortune.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 52 years, Inez Verdell. Jasper was a devoted father, and his life will forever be cherished in the lives of his children: Scalarett Tony Verdell, Sonya Sullivan Verdell, Rosie Verdell, Bobby Verdell and Joyce Bowman all of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Lonni Emon Fain of Bradenton, Florida and Latasha Dallis of Salisbury, North Carolina. He also leaves behind seventeen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren; his siblings, Margret Bauccum and Melba Cooper both of Thomasville, North Carolina and a host of nieces and nephews. Jasper was a father to many as he fostered 34 kids in 16 years.
"Our father was a warm man who had smiles to brighten your day, who always made you feel good with his warm words of praise. And what's more, he knew what to do to make wishes come true. He was patient and kind and the very best friend you could hope to ever find. He was no ordinary man. And we're proud to tell the world that he was our Father."
Celebration of Life services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 14, 2023 at Lexington Deliverance Tabernacle with visitation at 1:30 P.M. prior to the service. Interment will follow at South Lexington City Cemetery. Public viewing will be held on Friday, January 13, 2023 from 1:00 P.M. - 6:00 P.M. at Roberts Funeral Service (Winston-Salem). In every effort to protect our client families, facial masks and/or coverings are required for the services.
