Jerry Donald Young, 71, of Winston-Salem, NC, transitioned from his earthly life on October 22, 2024 after a battle with Glioblastoma Cancer. He was born on March 9, 1953 in Davidson County, NC to Percy Robert and Lena Minnie Lindsay Young.
He was a graduate of North Davidson Sr. High. After high school he continued his education at GTCC where he studied as a Medical Assistant. Jerry later enlisted in the US Army where he served an eight-year term as a Medical Aid in Germany and two years in the Army Reserve. Jerry worked for RJ Reynolds for over 20 years until he retired. A year after retiring, Jerry returned to the workforce, employed by Amp until 2020.
Jerry was a member of Brooks Temple UMC in Midway, NC. He was a man with a golden-green thumb who loved planting flowers. Visiting his home, you would see flowers everywhere. Above all, Jerry loved spending time with his family.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Chaffee Young; sister, Willie Mae Pringle; and brothers, Percy Lee Young and Larry Young.
Jerry leaves cherished memories to his sons: Jeremy (Stephanie) Young of Lexington, NC, Jeffery (Curtisha) Young of Winston-Salem, NC and Chad Rubin of Midway, NC; 10 grandkids: Jazmyn, Chaniya, Elijah, Imani, Janelle, Chella, Nasira, Sterling, Seita and Chelsea Young and 7 great-grandkids; sisters: Nancy Pierce, Novella (John) Yokley, Morlena Delapp, Marthina Young, and Siesta (Leland) Cabbell; brother, Clayton Earl Young; special niece, Patsy Young; special friend, Wandanetta Young and a host of nieces and nephews.
His life will be honored 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at Brooks Temple United Methodist Church with visitation at 2:00 P.M. prior to the service. Interment will take place on Monday, November 4, 2024 at 1:00 P.M. at Salisbury National Cemetery with military honors. A public viewing will be held on Friday, November 1, 2024 from 2:00 P.M. - 5:00 P.M. at Roberts Funeral Service (Winston-Salem).
