Obituary

Jessie Mae "Sus" Crump was born on March 11, 1939, in Davidson County to the late James E. Crump and Kathleen Clodfelter Crump. She peacefully departed this life on August 5, 2025.

Affectionately known as "Sus" by her family and dear friends, Jessie was a proud graduate of Dunbar High School, Class of 1957. She went on to earn her undergraduate degree from Fayetteville State University and later obtained her master's degree from North Carolina Central University. With a passion for education and a heart for children, Mrs. Crump dedicated many years of service to the Thomasville City School System, where she retired after a fulfilling career in teaching.

Jessie was a Pearl and Lifetime Soror of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and a charter member of the Omicron Psi Omega Chapter. She was also a proud member of the Daughters of Isis, serving her community with grace and dignity.

Her faith was central to her life. She was a devoted member of Yadkin Star Baptist Church where she faithfully served on the Usher Board, sang in the choir and worked as secretary of the Sunday School. Jessie believed in service, fellowship and walking in love, all of which she exemplified in her daily life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Kathleen Crump; two brothers, Bobby Crump, Sr. and Samuel Crump; and a sister-in-law, Kiwana Crump.

Jessie was known for her loving, caring and giving spirit. She dearly loved her nieces and nephews, and took pride in helping raise her nephew Shelton Crump as her own son. Alongside her father, she instilled in Shelton the importance of hard work, faith and perseverance. She was also famously the one in the family who gave everyone a nickname-each one filled with meaning and humor, a reflection of her warm personality.

She leaves to cherish her memory her two sisters, Cathy Crump Roberts and her husband Joseph Roberts, and Demetrius Dalton and her husband Eric Dalton; two brothers, Artis Crump, Sr. and his wife Fedrecia Crump, and Tim Peebles; her beloved son/nephew, Shelton Crump and his wife Michele Crump. Jessie also leaves behind four special nephews who held a dear place in her heart: Artis Crump, Jr., Anthony Crump, Jacobee Dorn and Jeremiah Walker. Special thanks are extended to her devoted caregivers, Kizzy Walker and Samantha Anderson and her husband Earl Anderson, who lovingly cared for Jessie in her final season.

In addition to her immediate family, Jessie is remembered fondly by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, sorority sisters, church members and lifelong friends. Her legacy of kindness, wisdom and love will continue.

Funeral service Saturday at Yadkin Star Baptist Church at 12:30pm with family visitation at 12:00 Noon. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
