John Henderson Hargrave entered Heaven's Gate, Sunday, January 1, 2023 while a patient at North Carolina State Veterans Home, Salisbury, North Carolina. We give honor and glory to Our Lord and Savior for his life. Hence, as he was known by many, was born May 26, 1932 in Davidson County. He was the son of the late Herbert Holmes and Minnie Josephine Hargrave Bush. His memory will forever live in our hearts.

He attended Dunbar High School, Lexington, North Carolina. He served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in September of 1957. Before retiring, Hence was employed at Owens Illinois.

A believer, John was a member of Smith Grove View Baptist Church where he served on the deacon board. In his leisure, he enjoyed going on joy rides. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Barbara H. McDowell and a foster sister, Teresa Redfern.

Hence will be forever loved and sadly missed by his sister, Rebecca Gill; three foster sisters, Rosa T. (Greg) Jones, Shirleen Taylor and Irene Wright; a foster brother, Harry Lee Taylor; a special friend, Mary Hairston and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral service will be Saturday at Smith Grove View Baptist Church at 12 Noon with family visitation at 11:00am. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
