Obituary

When I come to the end of my journey and I've traveled my last weary mile,
Just forget if you can, that I ever frowned and remember only the smile.

Julia Roberts Boler, affectionately known as "Aunt Toot", was born June 1, 1935 to Marshall A. Roberts and Ella Williams Roberts. Mrs. Boler passed away at her home on Thursday, March 23, 2023.

She attended the local school and graduated from Dunbar High School in 1953. After high school she enrolled at Livingstone College where she met and married the love of her life, the late Rev. George R. Boler, Sr. She was a faithful member of New Jersey A.M.E. Zion Church in Lexington, NC where she was secretary of the Quarterly Conference, Sunday School teacher and church musician. After moving to Winston-Salem, she joined Goler Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church where she was a member of the Missionary Society, Look-Out Club, Stewardess Board, 5W's, Class Leader, Pianist for the Children's Choir, the J. L. Hunt Choir, and Heaven Bound Cast. She later joined John Wesley A.M.E Zion Church where she was a faithful member in the following: Sunday School teacher, Missionary Society, Look-Out Service Club, Stewardess Board, Scholarship Committee, Church Musician, Trustee Board and served wherever needed.

She was formerly employed at Atkins High School for 16 years and later joined the staff of Dr. Thomas Clark and Dr. Hopkins. She retired from Aiges Family Health Care in 2000. In the community she was a former member of the Progressive Household of Ruth, the Alphabets of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, secretary of the Skylandites Club and the neighborhood Watch Committee, the Ministers Wives and Widows of the Winston-Salem District, Assistant Secretary of the Lay Council Winston-Salem District.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Marshall and Ella Roberts; two sisters, Fannie Jordan and Stella Baker; four brothers: Albert, Rensy, Walter and Leroy Roberts and husband, Rev. George R. Boler, Sr.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories, six children: Eddie Boler, Jacqueline Boler Fields, Judy Boler Stokes, George R. Boler Jr., stepsons Marvin Shaw and Melvin Shaw; five grandchildren: Anthony Harris, Michelle Stokes, Terrance Stokes, Elsa B. Cunanan and Ma Victoria Lavapie; nine great grandchildren: Paris Harris, Nadia Harris, Destiny Harris, Sateria Stokes, Salayla Stokes, Cynphany Stokes, Chloe Cunanan, Kyle Gutierrez and Zayne Gutierrez; brother-in-law, Raymond McDaniel; sister-in-law, Phyllis Faust; five devoted nieces: Elizabeth Spells, Cindy McLean, Jeanette Laverette, Chrystal Baker, Lisa Shaw and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; extended family: Mrs. Viola Ward, Mrs. Vivian Love, Mrs. Lenora Washington, Mr. & Mrs. James McKnight and Mr. & Mrs. David Cannady, all of Winston-Salem.

Her life and legacy will be celebrated 12:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at Goler Metropolitan AME Zion Church with visitation at 11:00 A.M. prior to the service. Burial will follow at Piedmont Memorial Gardens. Public viewing will be Wednesday at the church prior to the service.
