Obituary

Julia Chisholm England, daughter of Elijah A. Chisholm and Corrie Peeler Chisholm was born June 27, 1929, in Charlotte, NC. She entered into eternal rest October 28, 2015.

The funeral service will be Monday at 12:30pm at First Presbyterian Church with family visitation an hour before the service. Entombment will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park. The Ivy Beyond the Wall memorial service will be at 11:00am.

No public viewing.

Mrs. England received her early education in the public schools of Charlotte, NC, graduating from West Charlotte High School as salutatorian of her class. She received her BA degree in Elementary Education from Johnson C. Smith University in 1950, graduating cum laude and her master's degree from Teachers College, Columbia University, New York, NY in 1958.

At an early age, Julia joined Seventh St. Presbyterian Church, presently known as First United Presbyterian (Charlotte) and served faithfully as secretary of Sunday School for six years, circle leader and a member of the choir. She later transferred her membership to Shady Side Presbyterian Church in Lexington where she served as vice moderator of Presbyterian Women, sick committee chairperson, secretary and treasurer of the Presbyterian Women, the pastor's nominating committee, small church committee, a ruling elder, Mother of year in 1989 and she was presented an Honorary Life membership by Presbyterian Women in 1997.

Julia was a dedicated teacher for thirty-two years in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg and Lexington City Schools (Billingsville Elementary School, Charlotte, NC, South Lexington, Grimes, Pickett, and Dunbar Intermediate Schools in Lexington, NC) before retiring in 1985.

Her civic affiliations included serving on Lexington Memorial Hospital Board (6 years), Community Concerts Association Board (2 terms), Arts Council for Davidson County Board (6 years) and the American Red Cross Board (1 year).

She was also a worker for several fundraisers in Lexington, namely, Lexington Memorial Hospital, the Edward C. Smith Civic Center and the Davidson County Public Library Steering Committee.

Julia was as a Golden & Lifetime Soror in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and served as Grammateus, Lay Chairperson, and Graduate Advisor. She also served on numerous committees.

Her membership in various organizations included NAACP, Jack and Jill of America, Inc., N.C. Retired School Personnel, AARP, NCAE, and Mental Health Association of Davidson County.

Julia was married to her loving husband Charles for 39 years and to this union three children were born. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister, Adalena Chisholm and two half-brothers, Alexander and George Chisholm.

Those who share cherished memories of Julia include her three children, Macon England of Lexington, Iris Kaye Fitzgerald of Charlotte and Darrin England of Tennessee; three grandchildren, Taylor Fitzgerald, Morgan Fitzgerald and Isaac England; one brother Napoleon (Darlene) Chisholm; a devoted nephew, Jonathan Chisholm; a godson, Eric Davis and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

The family would like to express a sincere thank you to the staff of Dr. Victor Farrah, Radiology at Wake Forest Baptist Health LMC & Novant Health Oncology Specialists for their care, support and addressing concerns for Julia during her illness. A special thank you to Belinda Mull, NP & Angela Price, RN who provided such compassion in caring for Julia which was endearing to her.

Expressions of gratitude are also extended for the excellent care provided to Julia & her family by the amazing staff at Hinkle Hospice House.

To her caregivers, Kaye Lindsay & Lida "Tiny" Smalley, as well as our extended family a heartfelt thank you for your prayers, love, care, concern, support, phone calls, cards, visits, flowers, food, transportation to/from appointments and other expressions. What a blessing you were to her!
