Obituary

"But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary, walk and not faint." Isaiah 40:31

Mattie Katherine Woodberry Hoover, 92, the lady with the contagious smile and sweet spirit, departed this earth to meet the Lord and reunite with family and friends on Friday, January 31, 2025 at Hinkle Hospice House with her family and friends gathered in love. She was born September 1, 1932 in Mocksville, NC to the late William Woodberry and the late Mattie Timmons Woodberry. She attended grade school in Davie County and Price High School in Salisbury, NC. She retired from Stanley Furniture.

She was the Matriarch of her family. She loved to read, recite poems, cook and spend time with family and friends. Prior to her failing health, she would arise early every Sunday morning, prepare a large, delicious meal and still arrive on time for Sunday morning service looking as beautiful as ever. After church, her home was the gathering place for family and friends to enjoy good food and good company. Because of her love for God, she was a faithful member of Yadkin Star Baptist Church for more than fifty years prior to joining Meeting Room Baptist Church where she has remained a faithful member and Mother of the Church for the past 20 years. She had a huge appreciation for nature. She enjoyed sitting outside in her swing and watching the blue skies, birds, changing colors of the leaves, the sunset and most of all, she loved the ocean. One of her favorite things was watching motorcycles and 18 wheelers in motion. She was an avid San Francisco 49er fan, a former member of the Red Hatters and Southside Senior Citizens. She was a faithful participant at The Life Center of Davidson County for the last ten years until her health started to fail early this year.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Jerry L Hoover; brothers: Allen (Hallie) Woodberry, Willis Woodberry, Will (Sue) Woodberry and Gary Woodberry; sisters: Alberta Hunter, Evelyn Allison, Mary (Delos) Cross, Louise Woodberry and Mary Patterson.

Katherine will forever be cherished by her son, Larry W. Hoover and daughters, Geraldine (Shando) Perkins, Audrey H. (John) Medley, Claudette H. (Rev. Ray) White and Linda H. Mason; grandchildren: William ( Tonya) Hairston, Michael G. Lockhart, Marcus (Sherry) Moore, Charmin H. (Mike) Small, Kendall (Roxanne) Beck, June (Michelle) Hoover, Felisha Moore, Patrick R. White, Keith (Abria) Hoover, Kevin Hoover, Tenika Rudisell-Hall, Esq. Shannon Sullivan, Travis Medley, Karen Allen, Shawn (Holly) Henderson; 20 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Clarissa Woodberry, Peggy Mullen, Pearline Moss and Lois Andrews; a devoted niece, Mildred Terry and devoted daughter-in-law, Lynne H. Hoover; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and all who lovingly called her "Mama."

Funeral service will be Saturday at Yadkin Star Baptist Church at Noon with family visitation at 11:00am. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
