Kenneth I.
Harris
August 13, 1972 – April 16, 2026
Kenneth Ivory Harris, Jr., “Junie,” was born on August 13, 1972 in Lexington, North Carolina to Shirley Kay Jones and the late Kenneth Ivory Harris, Sr. He peacefully departed this life at home on April 16, 2026 while being cared for by his wife and daughter.
Junie attended Lexington Senior High School and later continued his education at Job Corps in Kentucky.
A natural entrepreneur with a determined spirit, Junie began his business journey at a young age by opening a small candy store, serving children in his neighborhood. His drive and creativity later led him and his cousin, Leroy Hendricks, to establish a game room across the street from their grandmother, Marindia Harris’ home. After mastering the skill of driving 18-wheelers, Junie co-founded H&H Trucking with Leroy Hendricks, transforming his passion into a successful business. He also explored opportunities in buying and selling storage unit contents, showcasing his sharp business instincts.
Continuing his entrepreneurial path, he later founded Harris Boys Trucking with his cousin, Mario Harris. He further expanded his ventures by opening a used car dealership, Car City Motor Sales, in Graham, North Carolina. In addition, he partnered with his brother, Robin “Mont” Harris, in the furniture business, continuing to build a legacy rooted in hard work, vision and enterprise. He was last employed by Mondelez.
Above all, Junie was a devoted family man who would do anything for his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, “big” brother, nephew, cousin and dear friend who touched many lives with his presence and generosity. His life was a reflection of unwavering support and care--someone you could always count on no matter the circumstance. When you needed him, he was there, steady and dependable, offering help without hesitation and love without condition.
He had a passion for cooking, a talent for working on automobiles and a love of learning new things. He was a graduate of “YouTube University.” Once he found something that sparked his interest, he immersed himself wholeheartedly. He was a loyal fan of the Carolina Panthers, who enjoyed watching the games.
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Tomeka Harris; mother, Shirley Kay Jones (James); one son, Destin T. Burton; two daughters, Jasmine Harris and Kayla Harris; and three grandchildren, Mossiah, Malikki and Mansa Evans-Bey. He is also survived by his brother, Robin “Mont” Harris (Cecilia); his sister, Gina Curry; his niece, Briyana Martin; his nephew, Jayden Hines; along with several aunts, two uncles, a host of cousins, extended family members and a host of friends.
The funeral service will be Thursday at First Baptist Church, Village Dr. with family visitation at 2:00pm and homegoing service at 2:30pm. Burial will follow at South Lexington City Cemetery.
