Obituary

Deacon King Allen Bennett, age 86, was born on August 1, 1938 in Lincolnton, Georgia to the late Felton and Ezzie Bell Blackman Bennett. On Sunday, September 8, 2024, he peacefully passed into the arms of his Lord Jesus Christ.

Allen retired from Thomasville Furniture after years of dedicated service and co-owned B & B Lawncare Service. He was the original guitarist for The Gospel Aires, sharing his passion for music with many.

Deacon King "Allen" Bennett was a devoted servant of the Lord and a beloved member of New Life Worship Center of Lexington, Inc. Over the years, he faithfully served in numerous roles, including ordained deacon, member of the Administrative Board, Trustee Board, musician, former van driver and custodian, and former member of the Male Choir. Allen's devotion to his faith was evident as he rarely missed a service, whether it was Sunday school, morning worship or Bible study. His love for playing his guitar, affectionately named "Big Red," was a cherished part of his life, both in church and on his porch.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Willie Hayes, Jessie Bennett, Tommie Bennett, Grady Bennett; and his sister, Lizzie Bennett Lockhart.

Deacon Bennett leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of over 70 years, Reva Murry Bennett of their home; his daughter, Minister Katherine Watford; his son, George "Moe" Bennett (Patty); two grandsons whom he raised as his own, LeShay Cross and Lonnie "DoWhop" (Damitress) Watford II; two great-granddaughters whom he raised as his own, TaKiyah Butler (Jermaine) and Sa'Niyya "Plum" Taylor. He is also survived by a sister, Mary Garnett and his other grandchildren, each of whom had a special place in his heart: Taya King, Courtney "Mikey" Cross (Chevon), Lazarus Hairston, Andre Bennett, Andrea Bennett, Keosha Bennett, Annika Green and Jamariquan "Goo" Green. His great-grandchildren include Cedarian "Markell" Lee (Leah), Kayla Burton, Courtney "Maya" Cross, Lyric Watford, Lamiyah Watford, Tayvia Watford, Malik McNeair, Nydia McNeair, Isaiah Clodfelter and Imani Clodfelter. He also leaves behind his great-great-grandchildren, Navy Trio and Judah Lee.

Deacon Bennett is survived by his son-in-love, Lonnie Watford; goddaughters, Essie Johnson and Alberta Elam, as well as his sisters-in-law Emma Harris, Fannie Pete, Onelia Stringer, Sandra Bennett, Driscillar Bennett and Hess Bennett and a brother-in-law, Jessie Murray. He was also close to his devoted cousin, John (Audrey) Medley and leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, other cousins, family members and dear friends.

Deacon King Allen Bennett's life was a testimony of faith, love, and dedication to his family, church, and community. His legacy will continue to inspire all who knew him.
